Fuengirola Market
The Fuengirola market is quite famous. The market most have heard about is the Tuesday market. It is the largest market on Costa del Sol.
Actually there are three markets every week in Fuengirola.
There is Tuesday market held on the Recinto Ferial (Fairground).
There is the Saturday market also held at the Fuengirola Fairground and is equally large.
There is the Sunday market held behind the Mosque. This one is smaller.
All of these markets are open from around 9:00 until around 14:00. They will shut down in time for siesta.
In addition there are some small food markets in different areas of town on Sundays.
The Tuesday and Saturday markets are held throughout the year. Please note that if there is a festival going on in town the markets held at Fairground will not be happening.
This is where the festivals are held. Instead you will find a funfair or whatever at the Fairground held open until the early hours of the morning.
The Tuesday Fuengirola Market
The Tuesday Fuengirola Market is the most famous. It is actually two different markets.
One half of the market is aimed mostly at tourists.
This part of the market sells clothes, shoes, handbags, sunglasses. They also sell tablecloths and other textiles.
You will also find jewelry and perfumes. Typical Spanish ceramics are also for sale here.
Many of these stalls sell what they believe tourists may buy.
Of course there are also quite a few local customers at the market.
You can find good deals if you take your time.
The other part of the Tuesday market attracts very many local customers.
This part of the market sells fruit, vegetables, spices and flowers.
The fruit and vegetable section of the market is very popular.
The fruits and vegetables are fresh and very good quality.
You can get fresh food at much better prices than the supermarkets.
The Saturday Fuengirola Market
This is a gigantic flea market. Almost all the stuff sold on the Saturday market is second hand. You may find a few stalls with new stuff, but not many.
The Saturday Flea market sells absolutely anything and everything. There is lots of stuff for sale many people would consider junk. It is hard to believe anyone would buy it some of the items offered.
Equally there are so many truly beautiful things for sale at the Saturday market. You can find some absolutely stunning items.
Take your time and you just may find something you will truly love. You may get lucky and find beautiful antiques.
Naturally taking into account that this is a flea market, every Saturday will be different.
To get the best bargains it is a good idea to arrive as soon as they open. The first shoppers tend to get a good bargain as an early fist sale is believed by many merchants to auspicious.
You will not find a fruit and vegetable section on Saturdays. All is not lost. There are several merchants who sell fruits and beverages from a wheelbarrow.
By the entrance there is an outdoor café and often a little entertainment. This could be a local band or choir.
Watch your belongings closely. These places are often crowded and petty thieves may find an opportunity to snatch wallets or other belongings. This is not a huge problem, but it is always better to be safe than sorry.
Local police officers are always present on both the Tuesday and Saturday markets. They stroll quietly around the market grounds and can also be found by the entrance.
Markets can be tons of fun. It is quite entertaining walking among all the different stalls.
